Vasiliko Beach
Vasiliko Beach is a small, rocky, and historically distinctive beach located in the Vasiliko quarter — the Old Town area of Tsarevo — in Tsarevo Municipality, Burgas Region, on the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, approximately 1.5 km south of the town centre along the coastal pedestrian and cycling path. With a shoreline of approximately 130 metres, it is one of the smallest beaches in Tsarevo Municipality and is also one of its most characterful — a quiet, sheltered cove set in a bay flanked by rocky cliffs, visited primarily by guests of the nearby hotels and apartments in the Vasiliko quarter rather than by mass beach tourism. The beach takes its name from the Vasiliko quarter, which in turn preserves the ancient historical name of Tsarevo itself: the town was known as Vasiliku in the 12th century, as Vasilikos in 1351, and as Vasiliko until 1934, when it was renamed Tsarevo by ministerial decree. The defining landmark of the beach is the Church of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God, built in 1831 on Cape Kastro — a rocky promontory rising 18 metres above sea level immediately adjacent to the beach — visible from virtually every point along the coastal path from Tsarevo and serving as a natural orientation point for visitors approaching on foot. The beach lies approximately 50 metres south of the church. The Vasiliko quarter itself is continuously being upgraded and improved: along the approach path from Tsarevo, designer benches, a rose pergola, a small fishing harbour with about ten boats, a bicycle tyre pump, and a drinking fountain have been installed in recent years, creating a pleasant walking experience that has become a recommended afternoon activity for visitors to Tsarevo. A separate small beach area for pets with steps to the water is also located near the main beach.
