North (Popski) Beach
Popski Beach (also known as the North Beach of Tsarevo) is a small but spacious and attractive sandy beach located in the northernmost part of the town of Tsarevo, Tsarevo Municipality, Burgas Region, on the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast — approximately 1 km from the town centre and 1.5 km south of the Arapya beach area. With a shoreline of approximately 150 metres, it is one of the smallest beaches in Tsarevo Municipality, but makes up in width what it lacks in length, and is flanked on both sides by picturesque rocky cliffs that frame the bay and give it a scenic, sheltered character. The beach is covered with fine, soft, golden sand free of rocks, and the water is warm, clean, and notably shallow even well out into the sea — qualities that make it particularly suitable for families with small children. In the peak summer season the beach has paid sunbed and umbrella service alongside a free zone for visitors with their own equipment, and a beach volleyball net is available. Family hotels, apartments, bars, and cafés are located in close proximity along the alley. The Popski Beach area reached the height of its popularity during the communist period, when the hillside above the beach was densely covered with rest camps and holiday stations belonging to enterprises and organisations from all over the country — a legacy that formed the character of the northern part of Tsarevo. In the post-socialist years the area went through a difficult period: in 2008 construction began on the large Costa del Croco complex adjacent to the beach, which was never completed and left the beach partly unmanaged for several years. In more recent years the beach has been progressively restored and managed, and the water quality is regularly tested and maintained.
