Sea Garden of Tsarevo
The Sea Garden of Tsarevo is the largest park by the sea on the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast after the Burgas Sea Garden, located at the southern end of the town of Tsarevo, Tsarevo Municipality, Burgas Region, directly on the sea shore — between the town's fishing harbour and the Central Beach. The garden covers approximately 50 decares and is planted with a mixture of broad-leaved and coniferous trees — including old pines that provide dense shade in the heat of summer — as well as flower beds and ornamental plantings along its promenade alleys. The garden is also the site of the Open-Air Museum "Kораб Горянин" and the monument to Mihail Gerdzhikov — one of the leaders of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising of 1903, who is among the most celebrated historical figures associated with Tsarevo and the Strandzha coastal zone. From the western edge of the garden a terrace with steps descends to the rocky shore below, and several hidden paths along the edge of the garden lead to the scenic rocky cliffs of the peninsula, from which views of the Central Beach and the bay between the town's two peninsulas open up. A large compass set into the ground on the coastal side of the garden marks the meeting point of the land and the sea. In the summer season the garden hosts a funfair and mini-golf for children and families. The Church of St George is located on the northern side of the Sea Garden, and the immediate surroundings connect the garden to the coastal promenade, the harbour, and the central part of the town. Tsarevo itself — known in the Ottoman period as Vasiliko and renamed in 1934 — is situated on two small peninsulas separated by a beautiful bay and extends to the edge of Strandzha Nature Park, where the combination of sea and mountain climate is considered particularly beneficial for health and well-being.
