The Sozopol Monastery “St. John Prodromos”

The Sozopol Monastery “St. John Prodromos” is a medieval monastery complex located on St. Ivan Island near Sozopol, the largest Bulgarian island in the Black Sea. It is one of the most important religious and archaeological sites on the southern Bulgarian coast, known for the remains of its monastery buildings, basilica and rich historical layers from antiquity and the Middle Ages. The site gained special prominence after the discovery of relics associated with St. John the Baptist, which further strengthened its cultural and spiritual significance.
