    Sozopol Central Beach

The Central Beach of Sozopol is the main and most centrally located beach in the town, situated on the eastern shore of the Old Town peninsula, in Sozopol Municipality, Burgas Region. It occupies an area of 18,220 square metres within the bay known as Kampifes — a name of Greek origin meaning "the winding one" — which lies between Cape Skamni to the left, where the Old Town is situated, and Cape Harmanite to the right, where the New Town begins. The beach is about 500 metres long and up to about 30 metres wide, making it relatively compact for a town beach; in the height of summer it is almost invariably very busy, as it is the closest sandy stretch to the historic centre and attracts both residents and the town's many tourists. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for clean and safe waters in multiple seasons. The beach is covered in fine, golden sand, with a gently sloping shore and shallow, generally calm water, as the bay is naturally sheltered from strong waves and currents. The sandy bottom is smooth for the most part, though occasional underwater hollows can form in places. From the beach, beautiful panoramic views open up towards the fortress walls of the Old Town and the medieval watchtower of the Southern Fortress Wall complex — a setting that makes the Central Beach of Sozopol visually unique among Bulgarian seaside resorts, where ancient stones and modern beach life coexist in the same frame. The beach offers a full range of summer amenities: paid sunbeds and parasols, water sports including water skiing, banana boats, parasailing, and jet-skiing, beach volleyball, a medical point, and a large selection of restaurants, bars, cafés, and shops within easy walking distance along the adjacent park and the entrance to the Old Town. Access to the beach is on foot only — there is no road access directly to the beachfront, and the nearest parking is at the beginning of the Old Town — which somewhat limits its ease of reach but also keeps the immediate surroundings calmer than typical resort beaches.
