    Harmanite Beach

Harmanite Beach is the largest and most popular beach in Sozopol, located in the southeastern part of the New Town, in Sozopol Municipality, Burgas Region. The beach stretches between Cape Harmanite — after which it takes its name — and the beginning of the Budhaka Peninsula, with the new Harmanite residential quarter of Sozopol rising behind it. With a length of about 1.2–1.4 km and a maximum width reaching 100 metres, Harmanite is one of the widest and most spacious beaches on the southern Bulgarian coast, with a total area of about 14,280 square metres. The beach is a holder of the prestigious European Union Blue Flag award for clean and safe waters. The name Harmanite derives from the Turkish word "harman," meaning the threshing of grain — the separation of the cereal mass from chaff and other impurities. In the pre-mechanised era this was done by hand, by pouring the grain from a height in windy conditions, so that the wind would carry away the lighter chaff and leave the heavier grain. Cape Harmanite was particularly well suited for this purpose, as it was always windy in June, the month of the harvest, and the Sozopol farmers would keep their granaries on the cape and move there with their whole families for the summer season. Harmanite Beach is covered with very soft, fine, golden sand, with calm, blue water and a gently sloping shore. The bay is sheltered from strong waves, making it suitable for families with children, while at the same time the combination of space, entertainment, and proximity to the New Town makes it the preferred choice for younger visitors. The beach is equipped with paid sunbeds and parasols, with a free zone also available, and offers a wide range of water sports attractions including jet-skis, water skis, banana boats, and water wheels. Professional lifeguards and a medical point ensure safety during the summer season. Behind and around the beach lies a dense concentration of hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, and discotheques, making Harmanite one of the liveliest nightlife spots on the southern Bulgarian coast. The beach is accessible by car, with parking available in the immediate area.
