    Villa Bellucci

Villa Bellucci is one of Sofia's most charming and atmospherically distinctive Italian restaurants, located at 12 Tsar Ivan Shishman Street in the centre of the city, Sofia Municipality. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored early 20th-century family house — formerly the property of the Gubidelnikovi family, one of Sofia's established families of the period, whose patriarch was a mayor, banker, and businessman — behind whose modest iron gate, as Forbes Bulgaria has noted, a rich Italian oasis unfolds. The name is taken from a Prosecco producer of the same name, and the restaurant's guiding spirit is the Italian philosophy of la dolce vita — the art of living well, unhurried and with pleasure. The building occupies two floors: the ground floor originally opened as a wine bar and delicatessen, while the upper floor was subsequently opened as a full restaurant. Exclusive private dining rooms are also available for birthdays, anniversaries, and intimate celebrations. During the warm months the garden transforms into a quiet oasis in the heart of the city. Periodic visits by guest chefs from Italy ensure the culinary standards of the Apennines are upheld, and Villa Bellucci is a certified holder of the Ospitalità Italiana quality mark — granted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria on behalf of Unioncamere and verified against the ten golden rules of Italian hospitality. The menu is an ode to Italian cuisine and the pleasure of well-prepared food. It is built on fresh, seasonal ingredients prepared with simplicity — the core principles of Italian cooking: quality without compromise, seasonal rhythm, and respect for tradition. Signature dishes include arancini with truffle, vitello tonnato, tagliatelle with porcini and truffle, Angus beef steak, and octopus alla Luciana. Homemade focaccia, handmade pasta, and thin-crust pizza are among the daily staples. All dishes are prepared with premium extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar from Galantino of Puglia, produced by traditional methods since 1926. The wine list is carefully curated to complement each dish — creamy risottos paired with fresh whites, rich meat dishes with powerful reds, delicate seafood with elegant sparkling wine or light rosé; a selection of Bulgarian wines from local varieties is also included. A deli counter offers meat specialities and fine cheeses to take home. The service is consistently praised as professional, attentive, and personable, with a largely regular clientele and frequent foreign guests.
