The Lozenets Reef
The Lozenets Reef is an underwater natural site located in the immediate vicinity of the Ambelits/Embelets rocky island and peninsula at the northern end of the Central Beach of the village of Lozenets, Tsarevo Municipality, Burgas Region, on the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The reef lies at a depth ranging from approximately 5 to 16 metres, making it accessible to both beginner and intermediate divers as well as snorkellers. The rocky underwater terrain of the Lozenets coastline, shaped by the volcanic origins of Cape Ambelits, provides a characteristic Black Sea habitat of flora and fauna — rock-dwelling fish species, algae, mussels, and other invertebrates typical of the southern Bulgarian coast, where the sea water is considered the cleanest along the entire Bulgarian Black Sea coastline. The reef is used as a diving and snorkelling site by the water sports and diving schools that operate in Lozenets during the summer season, and is among the more accessible underwater natural features on the southern coast for recreational diving without requiring boat access.
