Varna’s “Greek Quarter”
Varna’s “Greek Quarter” (Gratska Mahala) is considered the oldest part of the modern city—a historic seaside neighborhood shaped by the strong Greek presence before Bulgaria’s Liberation. Set near the Roman Baths of Odessos and within walking distance of the Sea Garden and the port area, the quarter is known for its layered past, old streets and buildings that preserve the atmosphere of late-19th and early-20th century Varna. Once home to some of the city’s earliest diplomatic representations, today it remains one of Varna’s most evocative places for a slow walk—where history, architecture and the maritime spirit meet.
