Raykovo neighbourhood
Raykovo is Smolyan’s oldest historic quarter, famous for its authentic Rhodope Revival-era architecture and the calm atmosphere of a mountain town preserved in stone, wood, and narrow streets. Here you can explore landmark buildings such as Ali Bey’s Konak (with its oldest parts dating back to 1780) and the traditional house ensembles of the Cheshite neighborhood, which keep the spirit of 19th-century Raykovo alive. A key highlight is the Church of St. Nedelya, built in 1836, part of a distinctive church-and-school complex that reflects the cultural awakening of the era. Today Raykovo is a charming place for a slow walk—where heritage, local stories, and Rodopi character meet at every turn.
