    Baikushev's pine

The Crooked Tree (Baikushev Pine) is one of the most famous natural landmarks near the town of Bansko and a symbol of Bulgaria’s ancient forests. This centuries-old Bosnian pine (Pinus heldreichii), estimated to be over 1,300 years old, is among the oldest living trees in the country. Discovered and studied by forester Konstantin Baykushev in the late 19th century, the tree is notable for its impressive size, twisted trunk, and remarkable longevity. Located in the Pirin Mountains, Baikushevata Mura is protected as a natural monument and represents the enduring power and beauty of Bulgarian nature.
